OUR HISTORY

The name Saville, as we spell it, dates back to Roman times and in Wakefield, England, 1090 as this is roughly when records were started. The Savilles were already there - Large land holders and farmers.

John William Saville was born 9/6/1860 and his son Fred Saville born 31/8/1883. Around 1900 young Fred was sent off to Oxford to undertake studies & become a doctor. But Fred had other ideas and went to London, Paying 5 Shillings to buy a "Butcher's Apprenticeship." A few years went by with the family thinking Fred was studying to become a doctor but getting no reports of Fred's progress. Finally Fred had to face his father and admit what he had done. A mere butcher would never be accepted in his family. Therefore young Fred had to be packed up & shipped off to Australia where nobody would know.

Fred Saville arrived in Australia in 1909 on the ship "Ophir." 1913 was a big year for the Savilles as John William was appointed Lord Mayor of Wakefield & Fred opened his first butcher shop named, "F. Saville Family Butchers." Fred's sons, Artle, John & Fred Jr. all became butchers and worked for their dad. After Fred's death in 1947 the name was changed to, "Saville Bros."

Artle's son, Trevor Charles Saville, was the only one of the next generation to become a butcher. Trevor's son, Troy Saville, is now the fourth generation to own & run butcher shops. So here we are today... 4 generations & 101 years later!
